During a visit with my daughter, I noticed that my dry eyes went away. Wondering why, I asked her if she was cooking with anything new. That is when I learned about beef tallow, a healthy oil made from the fat of a cow. I felt so much better that I wondered why beef tallow surprisingly improved my dry eyes.

Could I finally improve the health of my eyes, hair, and skin without buying expensive omega supplements? Determined to find out, I took the next logical step. I reviewed the facts by reading the research.

What I learned was so surprising, I became motivated to make my own beef tallow. All I needed was a pot, a cutting board, a sharp knife, and fat from a grass fed cow to use this simple recipe, How to make tallow.

Ideally, you should use the fat of a grass-fed cow for its low toxin, high nutritional value. Once canned, tallow looks clear until it completely cools.

Nutritional Benefits of Beef Tallow

Beef tallow contains:

  • Vitamins A, K, E, B12, and vitamin D are essential for healthy bone density, eyesight, teeth, and skin health. 
  • High levels of Conjugated Linoleic Acids, CLAs, is an omega 3. 
  • An omega 9, oleic acid, is a monounsaturated long chain fatty acid produced by the body; thus, present in most of our cells. Monounsaturated fats are found in olive, almond, avocado, sesame, sunflower, grapeseed oils, milk, eggs, beef, chicken, and nuts.
  • Omega 9 Oleic acid improves:

To think that the answer to improving my dry eyes had sat in my freezer for months. A few months prior, I bought a grass fed cow from a local rancher. Thankfully, my daughter made sure we asked the butcher for all the bones and fats.

About a week after I started using beef tallow in my home, my eyes once again felt moist. Even better, our food tasted even more delicious. We use tallow to cook fried eggs, French fries, country fried steak, and so much more. Amazingly, our fried foods had that old fashion crispness.

A Tip for Making Beef Tallow

If you decide to make beef tallow, here is one tip that improves the nutritional benefit of your beef tallow. Keep the temperature low. Even though beef tallow has a much higher heat point than olive oil, high temperatures damage oil. When oil smokes, it is burning causing a cellular molecular change that causes free radicals to form, a carcinogenic (cancer). While melting the beef fat into a healthy oil, it is important to keep the temperature low, stay in the kitchen, and use a stainless steel pot. Once canned, the tallow is an amazing clear oil.

Beef Tallow has a very high smoking point of 480 degrees.


Does Your Body Need Healthy Oils?

Fifteen years ago after reading the book, The LCP Solution, I suddenly understood that serotonin must bind to healthy fats to cross the brain barrier. An omega deficiency contributes to poor sleep. Researchers found that omega deficiencies are associated with

Researchers Jacqueline Stordy, Ph.D. and Makolm J. Nicholl discovered a genetic reason for omega deficiencies. They observed the above characteristics in addition to asthma in research participants with a diagnosis of ADHD, ADD, and Dyslexia. Later, a high percentage were found through blood work to have omega deficiencies. Interesting!

Most amazing was learning that sixty percent of your brain is composed of healthy fats. Their jobs within our body are endless. Jobs like the beating of your heart to the proper firing of your central nervous system and transmission of information within the brain. The whole body needs healthy fats. Sadly, some of our bodies fails to convert healthy fats from the food we eat.

“The conversion of one fatty acid to another involves processes of desaturation and elongation controlled by enzymes.” (pg.81) Your ability to convert food into all the fatty acid chains is negatively affected by stress, high trans-fatty acid diets, high alcohol consumption, viral infections, and various illnesses. 

“Trans-fatty acids formed by hydrogenation act differently in the body than other fats do. They seem to impair the production of the beneficial Long Chain Fatty Acids. Consequently, learning disorders seem to be worse in more highly developed countries (pg. 88).”

Does Tallow Provide Converted Long Chain Fatty Acids? 

Slowly melting cut up pieces of beef fat converts it into Tallow. Thus, I believe Tallow is converted allowing your body to more easily absorb its nutrients.
